18 Weeks and a 3 Mile run!

First real run while pregnant! I am not running for times I am really running to be healthy during this pregnancy. I was pretty healthy last time but I didn't really workout other than the occasional walk with my friend who was due 2 weeks before me. Which was great for me I just wish I had concentrated a little more on that.

After getting back into running and really loving it, I wanted to keep it up even if I didn't races. Well I knew I would have to learn how to run with a stroller. It’s harder than you think. I tried last summer when I was totally not I shape and it was HARD!!!! So my brother pushed the stroller for me. I have built a base level for my cardio which makes it easier to add the stroller. Still not the easiest but it’s easier than last time.

I read a blog post from hungry runner girl about running with a stroller. She talked about how training with a stroller makes the races easier. That made total sense to me. I mean it’s like when swimmers wear what they call their drag suits which makes it so they don’t cut through the water as much as when they wear their racing suits that make them more aerodynamic. So I kept that in perspective! Also look at the scenery!

I did push myself to run more than my brain said I wanted to. There were times where I would start running which felt fine for a few seconds then it started to feel difficult so my brain wanted me to believe that I could just give up. I could just walk. I am pregnant so I don’t need to do too much. Well the thing is it’s not too much. If it felt like too much my body would tell me not just my head. I really would listen to my body. I didn’t run the uphills very much. Mostly the downhills and flater parts. Since I am still new to the stroller running and being pregnant on top of that I am listening to my body to decide what’s too much!

Compared to just my walking pace I sped up. Its still a couple minutes slower than my running pace last summer but for me I feel great about it! Here is the walking pace from a few days ago.

So today was so nice after our run we washed the cars, had lunch, then it was naptime! I put up my hammock and relaxed while he slept! It felt so good! I have been wanting a hammock for a while now and for Christmas my sweet husband bought me one! It’s got the Tennessee state logo on in and it’s perfect! Such a nice relaxing way to spend the afternoon outside!

Its days like this where I get to workout and get to be outside while relaxing that make the hard, stressful days so worth it! I love days that are spent with family and building those relationships. Family is so important and you need those ties to be strong. They are the support that can carry you through hard times!
